Ingredients

For the Chocolate Cake:
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder good quality!
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water or hot coffee for deeper flavor
For Decoration & Assembly:
  • 1 batch of your favorite chocolate buttercream or whipped cream frosting
  • 1 large round marshmallow for the snout
  • 2 small round candies like M&Ms or chocolate chips for eyes
  • 1 pink candy or a dab of pink frosting for the nose
  • 2 large round cookies like Oreos or digestives for ears
  • Optional: Shredded coconut for a "fuzzy" look or just dust with cocoa powder.

Method

Step 1: Make the Cake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round pan. Whisk dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add wet ingredients (eggs, milk, oil, vanilla) and beat for 2 minutes. Stir in hot water until smooth. Batter will be thin.
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar, ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder, 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 large eggs, 1 cup whole milk, ½ cup vegetable oil, 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract, 1 cup hot water
Step 2: Bake
  1. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Create the Base
  1. Place the fully cooled cake on a serving plate. Slice a large marshmallow in half horizontally. Place it on the lower middle of the cake to form the bear's muzzle.
    1 large round marshmallow
Step 4: Frost
  1. Frost the entire cake and marshmallow with chocolate frosting. For a "fuzzy" look, pat shredded coconut onto the frosting. For smooth, just frost neatly.
Optional: Shredded coconut for a "fuzzy" look, 1 batch of your favorite chocolate buttercream or whipped cream frosting
Step 5: Add Features
  1. Press two small candies onto the marshmallow for eyes. Add a pink candy below for the nose. Use frosting to attach two large cookies to the top of the cake for ears.
2 small round candies, 1 pink candy or a dab of pink frosting for the nose, 2 large round cookies
Step 6: Final Detail and Serving
  1. Use a toothpick or knife to draw a smiling mouth under the marshmallow snout. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • The hot water in the batter is what makes this cake incredibly moist and gives it that rich, deep chocolate flavor. Don’t skip it! Feel free to get creative with decorations—use sliced almonds for claws, a ribbon for a bow, or different colored candies. Most importantly, have fun and bake with love. Happy Teddy Day
