Ingredients

  • 1 cup 175g good quality dark or milk chocolate chips or a chopped chocolate bar
  • 6-8 small edible bowl-shaped items like:
  • Store-bought: Small pastry tart shells edible cookie cups, or even clean, hollowed-out orange peels for a fresh twist.
  • Homemade: You can make simple bowls from melted white chocolate see note below.
For Decoration
  • 6-8 small candy wicks or edible birthday cake candles
  • Silver or gold edible glitter sprinkles, or chopped nuts (like pistachios or almonds)

Method

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate Gently
  1. Place the chocolate chips in a dry, heatproof bowl. Set this bowl over a pot of gently simmering water, making sure the bottom of the bowl doesn't touch the water. Stir slowly until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted. Turn off the heat.

Step 3: Fill with Chocolate
  1. Carefully spoon the melted chocolate into each bowl, filling them about three-quarters full. Gently tap the tray on the counter to settle the chocolate and remove any air bubbles.

Step 4: Create the Wick Hole
  1. Before the chocolate sets, take a candy wick or the tip of your candle and gently press it into the center of the chocolate-filled bowl. Hold it for a few seconds, then carefully remove it. This leaves a perfect, clean hole for the wick later.

Step 5: Let Them Set
  1. Place the entire tray in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, or until the chocolate is completely firm and solid to the touch.

Notes

For a Healthier Twist: Use dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage (70% or more) and fill small, hollowed-out strawberry or orange peel cups. The fruit adds a wonderful, fresh flavor and extra nutrients. Remember, the wick must be removed before eating if you're using a non-edible candle. Always supervise children when the diyas are lit.
